I have been volunteering at the town clinic every weekend from the time I was qualified to do so, but I have never encountered a case such as hers before that day. She was in her early twenties, her mother told me when I interviewed them, and they had only discovered this a few weeks back. Whatever it was, it was slowly eating her face and destroying her life. I felt bad for her and wondered what the town clinic could do about such a complicated case. I knew right then and there that she needed facial reconstruction before it became too late.

Also, a full facial reconstruction wasn’t needed; it had only touched a part of her nose, so she underwent rhinoplasty. It was like watching the doctors bring her back to life. Seeing how much it helped that girl, I realized how fortunate we are that facial reconstruction and rhinoplasty were discovered. It has definitely saved her life as I know it will do so for others.
